Romain Caillaud is Managing Director of the Yangon office at Vriens & Partners. He oversees political and regulatory analysis and advises on stakeholder engagement. He has been counsel to clients in telecoms, financial services and energy.
Romain has been based in Yangon for more than five years. Prior to establishing V&P’s office in the country, Romain worked at the French Embassy as well as at Myanmar’s leading market research and business insight consultancy. His projects, including impact assessments for the oil & gas industry, have allowed him to travel extensively in the country.
Before relocating to Myanmar, Romain held policy research and advisory positions in France and Southeast Asia, including acting as a parliamentary assistant within the French Senate and providing policy analysis for the Cambodian Ministry of Justice and the French Ministry of Defense.
Romain is also the President of the French-Myanmar Business Association (AFMA) and a Partner Researcher with the French Research Institute on Contemporary Southeast Asia (IRASEC).
Romain holds a MA in International Relations from the Paris Institute of Political Science (Sciences Po) and has studied at the University of Pennsylvania, USA and Waseda University, Japan. He has also studied at the Paris Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilizations (Langues’O) and at the Yangon University of Foreign Languages. He is fluent in Burmese.
