Breakfast Briefing: “How Myanmar’s past has caught up with its future – Politics, the forthcoming election and beyond”
Vriens & Partners held breakfast briefing titled “How Myanmar’s past has caught up with its future – Politics, the forthcoming election and beyond” by Dr Richard Cockett.
Dr Richard Cockett, long time Southeast Asia correspondent for The Economist and author of Blood, Dreams and Gold, a new study of Myanmar, talked about the country’s forthcoming election and the prospects for the country in the months afterwards. Taking a historical approach, he shows how colonial rule, and the military’s reaction against that rule after independence, provoked and shaped the conflicts and divisions that continue to dominate the country’s politics to this day. The election, and its aftermath, will be considered in this long-term perspective.
The briefing was held at Amcham Singapore on October 30, 2015.
